Hardware & Tools Inspection in China
Hardware fails on the invisible layer — a wrench that looks flawless but shears at half its rated torque, or plating that survives the showroom and rusts after 24 hours in salt spray. Our inspectors in Yongkang and Ningbo, China's tool-manufacturing heartland, check load, torque and finish on site, and pull samples for the corrosion testing a visual check cannot cover.
Early on we passed a shipment of ratcheting socket wrenches that looked and felt perfect — chrome finish, clean knurling, smooth action. Three weeks later the client's returns spiked: the pawls were skipping under real load because the factory had swapped to a softer, uncertified steel mid-run. Since then every metal hand tool on our checklist gets a hardness spot-check and a torque-to-failure sample, because you cannot see heat treatment with your eyes.

Most Common Defects We Find
Across hardware and tool inspections, failures cluster in finish and function far more than in dimensions — but the costly ones are the material and safety defects you cannot catch by eye.

A $340 pre-shipment inspection pulled samples for a Rockwell hardness spot-check and found the pawls in roughly 12% of a 30,000-unit ratchet order made from softer, uncertified steel swapped in mid-run — the factory's own QC had passed the lot on finish and action alone. Catching the under-spec heat treatment before shipment avoided a full return-and-rework cycle plus the field failures that would have triggered warranty claims. The order was reworked with certified steel before it left the plant.
